EGAIM 1.2 Update - a definitive experience

Story of an Update No One Asked For
The Reason Behind the Update
One day, I launched EGAIM to see if the idea I had in mind for the experience held up as well as it did in my head.
The first thing I noticed was that mouse sensitivity behaved very strangely on the device I was using.
"I can't leave it like that! This is the only project currently on my itch.io profile, and it could give people a terrible first impression!" - I thought.
And that’s how I started working on this update.
The Definitive Experience - Version 1.2
As it turned out, fixing the mouse's dependence on FPS was just the first thing I hoped to address. At first, I thought I'd do a quick patch just for the sake of it, but after that, I thought - "Hey, there’s that new Unity version that lets you remove the splash screen no one wants to see."
So I downloaded it and began updating from version 2021.3.14f1.
Then, as I replayed the experience, a bunch of small ideas started popping into my head. Now, two years later, I could clearly see that the original idea behind the game was murky - hard to grasp, even for someone doing a thorough playthrough.
So, a new reason for the update came to mind: create a definitive experience - something that should've been there from the beginning.
That led to a bunch of other changes: tweaks to the starting corridor, new messages on the walls, and various aesthetic improvements.
Finally, the lore - the meaning behind the whole game - could now be within a player's reach. Still only if they choose to explore, but with clearer, more direct clues.
So... Where Is the 1.1 Update?
There was no 1.1 update. I chose to name this one 1.2 because, to me, it better reflects how far the whole experience has progressed - something 1.1 just couldn’t capture.
So what's new in version 1.2?
- Lore - an idea behind whole experience could be exprienced more directly
- Hidden places are now more valuable than before, giving much more hints into explanation of the idea
- Rewamp of starting location
- New special effect for the second location
- New 3D asset for more grounded world experience (impossible!)
- "CRT shader" for a little more of an touch
- Nicer in-game font
- Epic update to Unity 6 (just to remove splashscreen)
- Fix for mouse sensitivity
- Fix for lights flickering
Final word
So, there we are.
If by any chance you found this post or this game, you should have much better experience than if you found it two years ago.
Have a great day and remember: EGAIM.
